Five hours left to support "Beyond the Frame" ⏳!

Hello and Happy New Year!

A quick note to you first thing in 2026 to say hello, and a last call: we are now 5 hours (!) away from the end of the "Beyond the Frame" recording fundraiser -- if supporting new art and music happens to be on your '26 resolution list, I'd love to have you as part of a tight circle of patrons of the project.

It's still tax deductible, and the benefits at various tiers are a lot of fun (Home concerts! Gallery tours! Performances!)

You'll find the fundraiser here -- for a few hours more.

Pilgrimage!

I just came back from an art voyage to see "Manet & Morisot" at San Francisco's Legion of Honor museum, which was inspiring on so many levels, especially in my admiration for the curator Emily Beeny's incredible work on the exhibit. I came, I saw, I cried -- if you happen to be anywhere near this place and share anywhere near my passion for this art, I encourage you to go before it closes in March!

Press!

My song "No Room at the Inn" is mentioned by Tessa Souter in the current issue of the New York City Jazz Record. I'm especially touched since Tessa is a wonderful singer, and I didn't expect any press since it was such a last minute addition to the holiday season. She writes:

"In more piano-vocal magic, jazz singer and songwriter Kristen Lee Sergeant's beautiful single,"No Room at the Inn" manages to political, clever and moving all at once, gorgeously accompanied by her simpatico pianist Jeb Patton."

Her whole column can be found here.

Happy August. I hope you're enjoying the waning days of summer. I took a moment yesterday to share some thoughts on The Decant -- I'm sending them directly to you here since you should not have to go anywhere else to read them! More to come, to be sure. Thank you, Kristen On Holding Back Long fermentations and fame Wine as a topic is always ready to supply me a convenient metaphor and comparison — I’m ever able to cherry pick, so to speak, examples from winemaking to illustrate or...

Hi There, Hoping you're staying cool -- I've just returned from trip that inspired this latest Decant, which I hope you enjoy, and working away on behalf of the forthcoming album and Beyond the Frame moves. Hope you enjoy my musings here or on Substack, as you prefer! Thank you for reading, Kristen Likeability and Lilac Wine Nina Simone & Normandy Cider I have my most vivid memories of hearing Nina Simone’s music on the job, during shifts I worked in restaurants over the years. The first was a...

Hello and Happy Friday! I've been looking forward to sending you this email for some time. After something like ten years, I am bidding adieu to the format knows as "Jazz & Juice" -- the oblique Snoop Dogg reference has had its day, and more than that, my writing wants to breathe a little more freely. So with all the implications of oxygenation, expansion and enhancement intended, this newsletter is now called The Decant. And, since people seem to be going to Substack for good reads, I'll be...
